The expedition cruise ship Heritage Adventurer made its historic maiden call to Daram, Samar on June 16, marking the first time a cruise vessel has ever arrived in the picturesque island. The arrival was celebrated by local officials, residents, and tourism advocates as a powerful signal of Daram’s growing appeal as a cultural and eco-tourism destination.
Tender boats began disembarking guests early in the day, greeted warmly by smiling locals, traditional music, and cultural performances on the welcoming pier. The atmosphere was electric as community pride took center stage, offering a vibrant showcase of Daram’s rich heritage and warm hospitality.
“This is a defining moment for our island,” the Daram Tourism Office said. “Today’s arrival opens the door to global tourism, inviting the world to experience our breathtaking natural beauty and cultural authenticity.”
Guests from the Heritage Adventurer, an expedition vessel known for exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations, were treated to an immersive experience. Shore excursions included visits to the Kandiwata Rock Formation, iconic limestone outcrop surrounded by turquoise waters that left many passengers stunned by its untouched grandeur.
Further inland, travelers explored highlights of Samar’s eco-adventure offerings. In Paranas, guests hiked the forested EcoTrail, visited birding sites, rode the adrenaline-pumping Torpedo Extreme Boat Ride, and strolled through the lush Arboretum, deepening their connection to Samar’s natural and cultural landscape.
The cruise’s arrival was also celebrated in Catbalogan City, where officials from the Samar Provincial Tourism Office welcomed the vessel as a “symbol of global exploration and cultural connection.”
With the successful arrival of Heritage Adventurer, Samar and Daram in particular have placed themselves on the cruise industry’s expedition map.
