Princess Cruises announced on Wednesday that their newest cruise ship under construction Discovery Princess has completed her successful sea trials this month. After accomplishing the 5-day test, the vessel has returned to the shipyard to get the final touch and prepare for her debut in March, 2022.
The construction dock of Discovery Princess is at Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, so from that point, it set out to sea in order to be tested in steering, navigation, equipment and propulsion. The 5-day trials were as always, a final phase of the construction and often include pushing the ship to its limits, just to ensure the shipbuilder, the initial officers and crew that the vessel will do a good job in all real-life conditions.
The vessel had success with the trials and was brought back in the shipyard for the final touch, including exterior and interior finishing to prepare her for the maiden voyage, the seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise from Los Angeles on the 27th of March, 2022. At the end of April, she is heading up the Pacific coast for seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle. This is the sixth and final Royal-Class newbuild, with a capacity of 3,660 guests.
