Today Disney Cruise line has confirmed the acquisition of the partially completed mega cruise ship Global Dream that was sitting at MV Werften shipyard in Germany. The new edition of the DCL fleet will feature innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining, and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart.”

The cruise ship is expected to have its maiden voyage in 2025 with a maximum capacity of about 6,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members.

Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, officially announced the purchase of the Global Dream saying: “Our cruise ships give us the unique opportunity to bring Disney magic to fans no matter where they are, and the addition of this ship will make a Disney Cruise Line vacation accessible to more families than ever before,”

Disney was able to get a great deal from the creditors, even with the cost of expected modifications and new finishes, it will be a quick and affordable process to bring the DCL fleet to 6 ships.

Disney is working with the shipyard Meyer Werft to complete the construction at the MV Werften shipyard in Wismar. The new ship will have some of its features redesigned by the world-famous Walt Disney Imagineers, and according to the rendering, the exterior will be adorned in the iconic, Mickey Mouse-inspired colors of the fleet, complete with signature red funnels.

The ship was originally constructed for the Chinese market and The Walt Disney Company has expressed interest in finding a home port for one of its upcoming ships closer to its patrons in nations such as Japan or China.

The ship will be one of the first in the cruise industry to be powered by methanol, one of the lowest-emission fuels available.
