The unfinished mega cruise ship Global Dream, set to be the world’s biggest by capacity could be joining Disney Cruise Line. The German news agency NDR, reports that Disney Cruise Line has tied up a deal to buy the vessel, however, there has been no official confirmation.

According to plans by insolvency administrator Christoph Morgen for MV Werften, the mega liner will apparently be completed in Wismar, under the leadership of the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, and could be sailing by the end of 2024.

Constructed for the Asian market, Global Dream was commissioned by Genting Hong Kong and its Dream Cruises brand, with a price tag of US$1.8 billion, however, the purchase price should be well below, NDR said.

The Global Dream, differs fundamentally from other Disney Cruise Line ships. The latest Disney ship has a maximum capacity of 4000 guests and is significantly smaller than the Global Dream which can accommodate up to 9000 guests. Some industry sources say that DCL might use the vessel for entry into the Asian cruise market.

NDR 1 Radio released a video stating that Disney Cruise Line will take over the Global Dream.

The Genting Dream was about 80 percent complete before MV Werften filed for bankruptcy in January 2022, and construction was suspended.

Disney Cruise Line recently took delivery of the Disney Wish, a new 4,000-passenger ship from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. Two more ships of this class are planned for 2024 and 2025. Before that, the Meyer shipyard had already built the Disney Dream (2011) and the Disney Fantasy (2012).
