The crew aboard the Disney Treasure rescued four sailors stranded in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Located southwest of Bermuda, the skipper of the catamaran Serenity issued a distress call to the U.S. Coast Guard as the vessel began taking on water. Being the nearest ship, the Disney Treasure responded to the call demonstrating its crew’s commitment to international maritime safety.
After receiving the distress signal, the Disney Treasure changed course and proceeded at top speed toward the stricken sailors. A rescue operation was initiated early Sunday afternoon, during which a Disney Treasure rescue boat was deployed to transfer the four sailors safely from their sinking catamaran to the cruise ship.
Disney Treasure’s Captain Marco Nogara expressed relief that the crew was able to assist the sailors in need, saying, “We are pleased the Disney Treasure could respond swiftly to the situation. Our crew’s professionalism and training were evident as they worked seamlessly to ensure the safety of all involved.”
The Disney Treasure is a newly launched ship, delivered to Disney Cruise Line in October by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. The vessel embarked on its maiden Atlantic crossing on October 29, 2024. After a brief stop in Funchal, Madeira, it continued toward Port Canaveral, Florida, its future homeport. The ship is scheduled to arrive there tomorrow, November 12, 2024, for the first time.
