Double Death Reported During Carnival Splendor Cruise

A devastating tragedy unfolded aboard the cruise ship Carnival Splendor, where two separate incidents during the same voyage have left passengers shaken.

The first tragedy happened during a shore excursion at Moreton Island, off the coast of Queensland. A woman from Tasmania lost her life while snorkeling. Despite efforts to revive her on the beach, she could not be saved.

Later in the sailing, a second serious incident occurred as the ship was heading back to Sydney. A male passenger is believed to have gone overboard.

His family raised the alarm after they were unable to find him, prompting an immediate response from the crew. A review of CCTV footage later confirmed that he had climbed over the safety railing before entering the water.

In a statement, Carnival Cruise Line said authorities have been notified and will continue their investigation once the ship returns to port. The company also confirmed that support is being provided to the families through its Care Team.

The vessel, carrying around 3,000 guests and operating year-round from Sydney, departed on April 15 and is scheduled to return Sunday.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones during this difficult time.
