A large-scale emergency exercise took place aboard TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 7 while the ship was docked in Warnemünde, Germany. The drill, led by the Havariekommando in cooperation with TUI Cruises, simulated a serious onboard fire with multiple injured passengers.
Fire brigades from Rostock, Lübeck, and Hamburg joined maritime rescue teams for the operation. Units used helicopters to deploy responders, while support vessels — including the tug Fairplay 35, firefighting ship Albert Wegener, and the DGzRS rescue cruiser Arkona assisted in the exercise. Volunteers played the role of injured guests, allowing crews to practice search, rescue, and medical triage.
Dr. Robby Renner, head of the Havariekommando, said that realistic drills are “indispensable for our readiness.” TUI Cruises noted that such exercises are vital to ensure crew and emergency responders are fully prepared should a real-life incident occur.
