Former AIDAvita to Sail as Blue Dream Melody in China

Submitted by kgnadmin on

The former AIDAvita has undergone yet another name change, signaling new developments in the ship’s ownership. The cruise ship, currently docked in Tallinn, has transitioned from its temporary name, Avitak, to the all-new Blue Dream Melody. This alteration suggests that the speculations in media reports regarding its recent acquisition by the Chinese cruise line Blue Dream Cruises are gaining credibility, although an official statement from Blue Dream Cruises is still not released.

Across various ship trackers, the cruise ship, now registered in Liberia, has officially assumed its new identity. With this development, the former AIDAvita is anticipated to embark on a new journey in the Chinese cruise market. Before setting sail for its new destination the ship must first depart from Tallinn, where it has been stationed since the autumn of 2021. Initially owned by the Carnival Corporation, the vessel underwent a change in ownership to Beta Marine and a renaming to Avitak after AIDA Cruises officially bid farewell in June 2022.

In preparation for its future sailings in China under the banner of Blue Dream Melody, the former AIDAvita requires substantial modifications. To cater to the preferences of Chinese guests, the cruise ship will undergo a comprehensive overhaul. Having last hosted guests in February 2020, the ship necessitates extensive renovation and maintenance work. Since 2020, it has spent several months docked in the ports of Dubai, Marseille, and Tallinn.
Blue Dream Cruises currently operates the cruise ship Blue Dream Star, constructed in 2001 by Blohm and Voss in Hamburg. This vessel has sailed for various cruise lines over the years. The newly rebranded Blue Dream Melody, formerly AIDAvita, is slightly larger than the Blue Dream Star, featuring a relatively similar ship structure.
