Grand Princess Passenger intentionally went overboard

U.S. Coast Guard sent a rescue plane northeast of Hawaii on Wednesday, responding to reports of a woman who went overboard the cruise ship Grand Princess.

Witnesses and security video confirmed that a 54 year old American passenger fell "intentionally" overboard, said Princess Cruises spokeswoman Julie Benson.

Coast Guard officials said that Princess crew were notified that the woman had fallen into the water. Dispatchers sent an HC-130 Hercules aircraft to the ship from the air base Barber's Point at about 4:00 pm local time, about four hours after she fell overboard. Authorities estimated that the flight to the ship would take about two hours.

The Grand Princess was on day three of a 15-day cruise round-trip sail from San Francisco to Hawaii.
