Greece sends cruise ship to provide shelter to Kos migrants

A cruise ship was sent by the greek government to help speed up the registration of thousands of Syrian refugees on the island of Kos. The ship arrived in the port of the island today. The ship Eleftherios Venizelos, offered by one of the Greek companies operating in the service of the islands should remain a couple of weeks in Kos. This boat can accommodate 2,500 people, but it will be reserved for the "registration and interviews with Syrian refugees" by the authorities.

The lack of facilities for the reception in Kos made it unmanageable for the arrival of seven thousand people in recent weeks. "What we want is a long-term solution, as a shelter. If the boat is here to stay, that's fine, if it is temporary, it's ridiculous, "replied Constance Theisen, the operating organization Doctors Without Borders.

The Coast Guard Dodecanese expressed concern about the arrival of this ship. "We demand the immediate expulsion of migrants from the island of Kos to more organized structures," added the Coast Guard said in a statement.
