Holland America Line To Open Rijksmuseum at sea

Holland America Line has announced new partnership with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to showcase reproductions of the most famous pieces of the museum on their cruise ship MS Oosterdam in April. The company will introduce a "creative studio" which will feature reproductions of famous masterpieces, including Rembrandt's The Night Watch. The space will be adapted on the upper deck Crows Nest bar on the left.

Passengers will be encouraged to unlock their creativity through painting and drawing on board, according to Michael Smith, senior vice president of HAL Guest Experience. Speaking at an event in London to announce the new partnership, Smith said: "It is not really a museum, it's more of a 'creative studio '. "We decided to put it on top of the ship, where will be a lot of light. We are encouraging guests to unlock their creativity. " Smith said the link-up was also a nod to 143 years of Dutch heritage and would be the first Rijksmuseum at sea.

If it proves a success it will be deployed on other ships in the fleet, said Smith. Joe Slattery, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing & Sales of HAL, has confirmed the dates for a series of musical partnership previously announced on board. Billboard is already on board on Eurodam, and will be extended to Koningsdam and Oosterdam in month of April. And the link with the Lincoln Center in New York, which has been specially made for the ship Koningsdam, will also appear on Eurodam from April. HAL is investing approximately $ 300 million over the next two years for upgrades and renovations of thier entire fleet.
