The cruise ship MS Amera operated by Phoenix Reisen is currently on a 38-day trip to Greenland and Canada. The ship was forced to modify its route on the first leg of the journey from Bremerhaven to Montreal.
From September 23-25, the Amera was sheltered by the port of St. Johns to avoid the hurricane at sea and ensure the safety of crew and guests.
As a result, the first Canadian destinations had to be canceled in the course of the trip. St. Anthonys and Corner Brook in Newfoundland and the Sept-Iles in the province of Quebec cannot be called at. The Amera left the unscheduled port of St. Johns on Sunday morning and is now en route to Saguenay Fjord. The ship will arrive there on September 28th instead of September 27th. On the evening of September 28, the MS Amera is scheduled to leave Saguenay and thus return to its planned route.
Before the end of the first leg in Montreal on October 1st, the ship calls at the provincial capital of Quebec on September 29th. Before the end of the stage, the princess from the Phoenix Reisen fleet will be in Montreal overnight. The second leg of the cruise to Greenland and Canada leads from Montreal across the Atlantic back to Bremerhaven. Initially, a few ports on the Canadian St. Lawrence River are planned. The first European destinations are in the Azores. The cruise ends on October 20th in Bremerhaven.
The choppy weather on the North Atlantic in autumn and winter often necessitates route changes. It cannot be avoided that a destination cannot be headed for. All cruise lines avoid extreme weather such as Hurricane Fiona in order to offer guests the most comfortable and safe journey possible. In addition to Phoenix Reisen's Amera, Ambassador Cruise Lines' Ambience has also sought shelter in St. Johns since September 23. Some destinations on the British cruise ship's route must also be omitted.
