Submitted by kgnadmin on

After several shakedown cruises, the stage is set for the naming ceremony of the most anticipated cruise ship of 2024. The naming ceremony for the world's largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, will take place today, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at PortMiami, with the world's greatest footballer, Lionel Messi, serving as the godfather.

Approximately two months after being delivered from the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland, the Icon of the Seas is ready to officially start operations. During today's christening, the new vessel will once again be presented to the media. Over the last two months, the first crew on board has been working tirelessly to ensure a successful launch. Following departure from Turku, additional equipment work took place at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz. Subsequently, the cruise ship crossed the Atlantic and, after a few days in the Caribbean, made its first call to Miami on January 10, 2024.

Lionel Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami CF, will serve as the godfather. Royal Caribbean International is the main sponsor of the football club. With Lionel Messi's international prominence, there will be increased attention on the christening and commissioning of the world's new largest cruise ship. The live stream of the naming ceremony will be broadcast on YouTube.

Next Saturday, January 27, 2024, marks the beginning of the first week-long Caribbean cruise with the new Icon of the Seas, which, according to Royal Caribbean International, sets new standards for family vacations.
