Royal Caribbean's latest episode of the "Making an Icon" video series showcases the exciting Thrill Island on the upcoming cruise ship Icon of the Seas. The largest water park at sea, Thrill Island, offers guests various activities, including numerous water slides, the Flow Rider surf simulator, mini golf courses, an outdoor sports deck, and a climbing park over the sea.
The planning and construction of the water park, which features six slides starting from two launch towers behind the Icon of the Seas funnel, have been a significant challenge. The Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland, where all ship areas will be installed, will handle this task, transporting large amounts of water and energy to the area.
The new water park also boasts two family slides, which can accommodate several people per boat, and a climbing park that allows guests to climb around the Royal Caribbean logo at 45 meters above sea level. The Flow Rider surf simulator, which has been a popular feature on many Royal Caribbean ships for years, is also connected to the water slides.
At the Turku shipyard, work on the public areas, including the outer decks, is in full swing. Unlike the shipyard in Papenburg, there is no closed dock hall available in Turku. The ships are built in an open dry dock and then moved to an outfitting pier where the Icon of the Seas is currently berthed. The new largest cruise ship in the world will be delivered in December 2023, allowing it to commence operations from Miami as planned in January 2024. All guests seeking adventure are guaranteed to have a thrilling experience at Thrill Island.
