A crewmember from the cruise ship Costa Luminosa was evacuated yesterday off the coast of Greece. The Greek Coast Guard watchstanders at the port of Pyols received a request from the captain of the ship for the medevac of a 22-year-old Indian male crewmember. Watchstanders consulted the Coast Guard's Unified Coordination Center for Search and Rescue, and deployed a rescue boat with medical personnel. The patient was transferred on the boat and then taken by ambulance to the Kalamata Hospital.
Costa Luminosa is currently sailing on a 7 Nights Mediterranean cruise from Venice. The vessel was en route to Argostoli (Kefallinia), Greece when the medical evacuation was requested. No further details of the crew member's medical condition, his name or his position onboard were released.
