A 39-year-old man ended his life tragically on a seven-day Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Magic after falling from his cabin balcony and landing on  open deck three decks below, Carnival Cruise Lines spokesperson said.

Witnesses traveling with him at the time of the accident said he was sitting on the balcony railing of his own cabin and accidentally fell, however the railings are intentionally constructed higher than normal balcony’s to prevent this kind of accidents. Some news sources report that the man climbed up on the top of the balcony railing.

Carnival Magic was on a seven-day Caribbean cruise that departed from Galveston on Sunday. 

In a press release Carnival officials stated "We extend our deepest sympathies to the guest's family and loved ones in the wake of this terrible tragedy,".
