Meyer Werft Fire won’t delay NCL Getaway

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft announced yesterday that a fire broke out in basin 2 while the new NCL cruise ship Gateway was in the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The flames were subdued after the intervention of the fire brigade.

 

Damage was recorded at the production area of the plant, while the Visitor Center site has been evacuated. At the moment, there are no specific details or the reasons of the accident. There are currently no reported injuries. It is too early to establish an account of the damage, but according to the site the delivery of the vessel, scheduled for 2014, it is not at risk. Early indicators suggest that the fire is a minor setback rather than anything greater.
