An injured crew member was airlifted from the Disney Wonder during a rescue operation off the coast of British Columbia, Canada.

The emergency unfolded on September 8 while the ship was sailing from Vancouver to Alaska. At the time, Disney Wonder was approximately 113 miles (182 kilometers) northwest of Port Hardy.

The Royal Canadian Air Force’s 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron was called to assist. A CH-149 Cormorant helicopter reached the ship, where two search-and-rescue technicians carefully hoisted the injured crew member from the bow.

A member of the ship’s medical team was also taken aboard the helicopter to accompany the patient. The crew member was flown to Comox and transferred to British Columbia Emergency Health Services for further medical care

Ship-tracking data showed Disney Wonder changing course during the operation, likely to help create safer conditions for the helicopter rescue. After the successful evacuation, the ship resumed its scheduled Alaska itinerary

The nature of the crew member’s injury and their current condition have not been publicly disclosed.
