During the 72nd annual Miss Universe competition, Michelle Dee, representing the Philippines, received the prestigious "Spirit of Carnival" award. The accolade, presented by Carnival Cruise Line, signifies Dee's embodiment of the company's core values of fun, friendship, diversity, and inclusion. Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy announced the live finale held in El Salvador on Saturday, Nov. 18, which was broadcast internationally.

Michelle Dee was recognized not only for her grace and beauty but also for her dedication to a cause close to her heart.

“Inspired by her two siblings with autism, Michelle has made autism acceptance, inclusivity and education her mission. At Carnival, we want everyone on our ships to feel welcome, and we were the first and only cruise line to be certified as sensory inclusive,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “I know our 13,000 Filipino crew members are going to be very excited by her selection.”

Dee's journey to this prestigious award is marked by her academic achievements and entrepreneurial endeavors. A psychology graduate from De La Salle University in Manila, she furthered her education with a certificate course in entrepreneurship through Harvard University online. Simultaneously, Dee ventured into businesses focusing on health and technology. Her commitment to societal well-being extends beyond her advocacy for autism, as she also serves as the president of the Inner Peace Foundation, a group founded by her grandmother that promotes spiritual enlightenment.

Michelle Dee joins a remarkable group of women who have received this honor in the past. The list includes Miss Universe Ukraine Viktoriia Apanasenko, Miss Universe Bahamas Chantel O’Brian, and Miss Universe Dominican Republic Kimberly Jimenez, who is also godmother to Carnival’s Mardi Gras.

As Carnival Cruise Line employs a significant portion of Filipino crew members, Michelle Dee's recognition takes on a special significance. Her selection for the "Spirit of Carnival" award is a testament of the loyalty and engagement of the Filipino crew within the company. It not only highlights their hard work and dedication but also symbolizes the diverse and inclusive culture that Carnival Cruise Line strives for.

The recognition suggests that Miss Universe Philippines Michelle Dee might become a godmother to some of the upcoming Carnival ships, following in the footsteps of Miss Universe Dominican Republic Kimberly Jimenez. Such a possibility would not only be a personal honor for Michelle Dee but also a symbolic gesture acknowledging the integral role played by Filipino crew members in the success of Carnival Cruise Line. It would underscore the deep connection between the world of beauty pageants and the maritime industry, showcasing the shared values of inclusivity, diversity, and celebration of the human spirit.
