MSC World Class to Rival Royal Caribbean Oasis Cruise Ships

MSC Cruises announced the next-generation world class cruise ships built by STX France. The two companies signed a new memorandum of understanding firming up the order of two 200,000 GRT, LNG-powered mega cruise ships, with options for two additional vessels.  

In connection with the signing, MSC Cruises unveiled several key features of the World Class. Among other innovations, they will be equipped with a new generation of LNG-powered engines as well as a new generation waste water treatment system.   

The World Class’ futuristic “Y” shape structure will enable panoramic sea views and increase the proportion of balcony cabins. The ships’ G bow (vertically positioned at a 90-degree angle) has been designed to improve stability, hydrodynamics as well as to enhance guest comfort. Other guest-centric innovations include family-friendly villages, a panoramic aft, and a glass pool lounge.

Harmony of the Seas Vs MSC World Class

The future MSC World Class mega ships will rival the world’s largest Oasis class cruise ships operated by Royal Caribbean, and in some features will overpass them. MSC World Class will have a larger guest capacity of maximum 6850 pax, compared to 6780 guest capacity of Harmony of the Seas. The new MSC ship will have 2760 staterooms and will be wider by 1 meter than Harmony of the Seas. Harmony of the seas will remain the world’s largest cruise ship with 227000 Gross Tonnage and length of 362 m (1188 ft).  The price comparison shows that Harmony costs $1,35 billion, and MSC World Class $1,125 billion.
