Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Starts Construction on New Pier at Great Stirrup Cay

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) and leaders from the Bahamas marked a significant milestone Friday, breaking ground on a new cruise pier at Great Stirrup Cay.

The $150 million project, scheduled for completion in late 2025, will enable two large ships to dock simultaneously, improving access to the private island for guests sailing on Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

This initiative is a cornerstone of NCLH’s strategy to support its fleet of next-generation vessels, currently under construction by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. Along with the pier, the company plans to enhance Great Stirrup Cay’s infrastructure as part of its long-term growth strategy, which also includes reducing financial leverage over time.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis, Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, and key NCLH executives, including CEO Harry Sommer and Norwegian Cruise Line President David Herrera. Local dignitaries and stakeholders were also present to commemorate the occasion.

NCLH called the new pier a “transformational investment” for the region and its cruise operations.

In addition to the pier, NCLH reaffirmed its commitment to the Bahamas by pledging over $45,000 in 2025 to support educational programs. This funding will provide scholarships, internships, and upgrades to community facilities.
