One of the most desired holiday destinations, The Balearic Islands in Spain is limiting the number of cruise ships in the dock. The regional government of the archipelago stated on Monday that the maximum number of cruise ships permitted to dock in the Mediterranean port next year is 518, compared to 594 that arrived there in 2019 before the outbreak.
To make it clear, that number was divided into days, adding that no more than three cruise ships would be allowed to land on the same day, out of which only one could be a “mega cruise” ship with more than 5,000 passengers. "This is the first time that a real limit has been set for cruise ship arrivals to Palma," said the region's Minister of Tourism, Igo Negrowela.
When it comes to the residents of Palma de Mallorca, they have required a cruise restriction as soon as they noticed the sharp growth of tourist arrivals, since their presence is disrupting the residents’ lives in many ways. This dissatisfaction can be seen in graffiti on some city walls.
