The General Administration of Ports (AGP) recently presented the governor of Tierra del Fuego, Gustavo Melella, with an exciting project proposal for a new cruise terminal in Ushuaia. The state-of-the-art project will enhance the quality of infrastructure and services offered at the primary gateway to Antarctica and the most frequently used home port for Antarctic-bound cruises.

With an estimated investment of $36 million, to be funded by federal sources, and a projected construction period of three years, this ambitious undertaking is set to transform the port. The new terminal will have the capacity to accommodate up to 8,000 passengers daily and will incorporate key elements from the original plan developed by the Tierra del Fuego Provincial Ports Directorate. Notably, the design includes a terminal section that extends directly over the water, providing a unique experience for visitors.

Governor Gustavo Melella emphasized the significance of Ushuaia and expressed enthusiasm about the record-breaking number of cruise passengers this year and the promising future projections. Recognizing the need to strengthen infrastructure and services, Melella affirmed the goal of positioning Ushuaia as a world-class destination.

The terminal will feature communal areas, commercial spaces, and all the necessary facilities to cater to the needs of cruise and catamaran passengers. Additionally, a VIP lounge and a cultural area showcasing information about Antarctica will be incorporated, enriching the visitor experience.

The construction of the new terminal will not disrupt the current operations of the port, allowing all existing activities to continue seamlessly during the construction period.
