Princess Cruises Crew Member Sentenced to One Year for Assaulting Teen Passenger

Submitted by kgnadmin on

A 34-year-old chef aboard the Sky Princess cruise ship has been sentenced to one year in prison for assaulting a teenage passenger. Vincent Lucas, from Goa, India, was convicted after a four-day trial at Southampton Crown Court and will face deportation after serving his sentence, Cruise Radio reported.

The assault occurred late at night in the ship’s teen lounge as Sky Princess returned to Southampton, England. Prosecutors described how Lucas had been roaming the ship before groping and kissing the victim. The teenage girl later described the assault as a “nightmare” that left her feeling unsafe and struggling with sleepless nights.

Lucas’ defense argued he had been working to support his wife and extended family, but the judge stated it was unlikely he would ever work on a cruise ship again.

Following the sentencing, Princess Cruises condemned the crime, stating that the assault did not reflect the company’s values. The cruise line confirmed it had immediately reported the incident to authorities and terminated Lucas’ employment.
