Princess Cruises Eases Tattoo Policy After Crew Feedback

Princess Cruises has decided to reconsider and adjust its recently announced crew tattoo policy after concerns were raised by employees across the fleet. At the recent HRO Conference, the line held in-depth discussions about the policy’s content and rollout, guided by direct teammates feedback. Human Resource Officers shared actionable recommendations, which Princess Cruises President Gus Antorcha and Chief Human Resources Officer Luba Pelikhova agreed to incorporate. The company also committed to involving HROs earlier in future policy reviews so that their insights can shape decisions before implementation.

In a message to crew, the Fleet HR Team outlined adjustments to the Tattoo Policy, emphasizing that the changes are designed to better support teammates while still maintaining brand standards.

What’s Changing

New Effective Date: The policy will now take effect on Monday, December 1, 2025, allowing additional time for crew to secure appropriate coverage.

New Tattoo Exception: One small, discreet tattoo (no larger than 5 cm x 5 cm) behind the ear, back of neck, or on each limb may be permitted at the discretion of the onboard Head of Department and Human Resource Officer.

Expanded Sleeve Colors: Sleeve covers may now match uniform colors, instead of being limited to neutral or skin-tone shades.

Uniform Options: Long sleeve alternatives will be made available in the crew uniform store to support compliance.

Crew Store Additions: Arm and leg sleeves are being explored as optional items for purchase, giving teammates more flexibility.

What Will Stay the Same

Sleeve Coverage Required: Larger or multiple visible tattoos (“sleeved” tattoos) must still be covered using sleeves, long sleeves, or long pants, depending on uniform guidelines.

Exceptions: Tattoos on the face and neck remain prohibited, and any offensive, inflammatory, or inappropriate tattoos are still restricted. Religious or culturally significant tattoos will continue to be reviewed individually.

Entertainment Department: Final discretion for tattoos remains with the Shoreside Head of Entertainment.

A Balancing Act

The revised stance demonstrates Princess Cruises’ effort to balance crew individuality with brand presentation standards. By extending the timeline, introducing exceptions for small tattoos, and offering more uniform flexibility, the company shows it has listened to crew concerns while keeping consistent appearance guidelines in place.

The outcome shows how dialogue between crew, HR officers, and leadership can shape policies in a way that respects both professional image and personal expression.
