RCCL Crew Member Jailed for Sexually Abusing Passenger

A Mauritian crew member has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for sexually abusing a woman while she was asleep on a Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas according to New Jersey's federal prosecutor.

Federal Judge Esther Salas imposed the sentence on Wednesday on Karan Seechurn, who was a worker on the cruise ship. Karan Seechurn ,26, pleaded guilty in April 2015 to a federal charge of abusive sexual contact, New Jersey federal prosecutors say.

According to court documents, Seechurn whose job was to stock the minibars in the passangers cabins. In order to conduct this duty, he was provided with a key that gave him access to passengers’ rooms. Seechurn admitted that on December 23, 2014, while he was off-duty, he entered a passenger’s room and encountered a sleeping woman. Seechurn admitted that he touched the passenger’s genitalia while she was asleep. In addition to the prison term, Judge Salas sentenced Seechurn to one year of supervised release.
