Reykjavík’s New Vör Cruise Terminal Nominated for Major European Award

Reykjavík’s new Vör passenger terminal has earned international recognition just months after opening, becoming the first cruise facility in Iceland to be nominated for a World Cruise Awards honor.

Located at Faxaflói Ports in Reykjavík, Vör has been nominated for Europe’s Best Cruise Terminal 2026, putting the new facility alongside some of Europe’s most established cruise destinations.

The list of 15 nominees includes terminals in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Civitavecchia, Lisbon, Monaco, Málaga and Valletta, making Reykjavík’s inclusion particularly notable for Iceland’s growing cruise sector.

Vör officially opened at the end of May 2026 as Iceland’s first purpose-built cruise passenger terminal. The new facility replaced the temporary tent structures previously used to handle cruise guests arriving in and departing from Reykjavík.

The terminal provides improved facilities for passengers, crew members, cruise lines and local partners. It is also an important part of Faxaflói Ports’ plans to attract more turnaround cruise traffic, where passengers begin or end their voyages in Reykjavík.

Turnaround calls can have a greater economic impact than regular port visits, as passengers often spend additional time in Iceland before or after their cruise, using local hotels, restaurants, transportation and other tourism services.

Faxaflói Ports said the World Cruise Awards nomination represents important recognition for both Vör and the wider development of Reykjavík as a cruise destination. It also highlights years of work to strengthen Iceland’s position in the international cruise market.

The building will not sit unused once the main cruise season ends. From October through the end of March, Vör will switch roles and serve as a venue for meetings and events, allowing the facility to be used throughout the year.

The World Cruise Awards recognize achievements and innovation across the global cruise industry, with voting open to both industry professionals and the public.

Voting for Europe’s Best Cruise Terminal 2026 is currently underway and will close on August 21, 2026.
