Royal Caribbean Group announced that the company has canceled all December voyages onboard Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean ships, excluding cruises from Singapore on the Quantum of the Seas. The decision come just a few days after CDC replaced the longstanding no-sail order with a framework for conditional sailing which requires implementing many regulations before cruise lines can resume with sailings from US ports.
In an official statement, Royal Caribbean said that their primary goal continues to be a healthy return to service for guests, crew and the communities their ships are visiting. As the company continues to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other authorities toward this shared goal, Royal Caribbean Group will be extending the suspension of all sailings departing on or before Dec. 31, 2020. The Only exception is the Quantum of the Seas as the ships is getting ready for its December 1, restart in Singapore.
“After further consulting with our partners at Cruise Lines International Association and in conjunction with the CDC, we have decided to extend the suspension of sailings for our global fleet for all sailings through December 31st, 2020, with a plan to resume operation on January 1st, 2021.” Royal Caribbean Group statement reads.
In a press release, the company added they will further extend the suspension of sailings on two ships in the fleet. Due to the closure of Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany along with the disruption to the supply chain caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Odyssey of the Seas cruises from November 5th, 2020 through March 26th, 2021 have been canceled. Liberty of the Seas dry dock has been postponed to a later date, and the vessel will now sail to the port of Galveston earlier than previously planned. Due to the fact that only one cruise ship can dock at the Galveston pier, Royal Caribbean have cancelled the February 14, 2021 cruise on Jewel of the Seas.
Celebrity Cruises has also canceled all sailings through 2020, after the announcement of the suspension of their full 2020/21 Winter program in Australia and Asia.
“As the world continues to confront the many challenges resulting from COVID-19, our primary goal continues to be a healthy return to service for our guests, crew and the communities we visit. At this time, Celebrity Cruises will be extending the suspension of global operations for all sailings departing on or before Dec. 31, 2020.” said Celebrity Cruises.
