Royal Caribbean Cancels Brazil for Next Season

Brazilian media reports that Royal Caribbean announced closure of operations in Brazil for the season 2016/2017. In a press release RCCL says that decision was taken due to high operating costs in Brazil and the growth in Asian and Australian markets. In focus next season will be the Asian market due to growing demand in the cruise market and numerous infrastructure investments.

Royal Caribbean will end the Brazilian season on 13.04.2016 with the cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas sailing away from the port of Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. The company claims that the business and the staff of the local office will not suffer immediate changes.

"This year, Rhapsody of the Seas will sail to Brazilian coast, however for next season Royal Caribbean will not deploy  cruise ships to Brazil, which is unheard of," said Ricardo Amaral, vice president of Royal Caribbean for Latin America and the Caribbean.

"This was Royal Caribbean strategic decision due to airport issues, infrastructure and operational costs. It is important to remember that this choice is not restricted to Royal, it is part of a general move at all since 2011 the sector is slowed down, "says Royal Caribbean Marketing Manager in Brazil, Fernanda Dominicis.

Brazil is losing competitiveness to destinations such as Asia and the Caribbean in particular with opening of Cuba for the cruise market
