Royal Caribbean Crew: The Heartbeat of the Seas

Submitted by kgnadmin on

Royal Caribbean International is known for its incredible fleet, stunning destinations, and unforgettable experiences. But beyond the ships the heart of the company lies in its crew members, the dedicated individuals who create lifelong memories for guests. When Royal Caribbean’s President, Michael Bayley, recently invited guests to share their experiences with the crew, the response was overwhelming. Passengers shared stories of kindness, dedication, and connections that highlight just how much the crew means to them.

Above and Beyond: A Lifesaving Gesture

Susan Adamchik recalled a moment of panic when she realized she had left all her medication in a drawer on Freedom of the Seas just as she was about to board Icon of the Seas the next day. Fearing the worst, she reached out to Guest Services on Icon, hoping for a miracle. Thanks to a dedicated bartender and an exceptional team effort, her medication was delivered to her at CocoCay—just in time. "Thumbs up for all the wonderful employees who helped get my medication back to me," she said.

From Guests to Family

A group sailing on Serenade of the Seas shared how they first met Dharma, their waiter, nine months before embarking on the Ultimate World Cruise. When they stepped onboard, Dharma greeted them with a heartfelt, “I’ve been waiting for you!” Over time, Dharma and his family—his wife Nenni and their son Alvin—became more than just crew members; they became family. “We book cruises on the ships they are on just so we can see them!”

More Than Just a Bartender

For Katrina Lien, no matter the ship, what truly matters is the crew. She described Chessi Desouza, affectionately known as "Chester," as "the absolute best human being and bartender anyone could ask for." The friendship they built is strong enough that they now plan future cruises based on Chester’s assignment.

The Joy of Returning to the Seas

Christopher Newman reminisced about the excitement of The Royal Comeback on June 12, 2021, aboard Adventure of the Seas. "The crew treated us so well, and you could truly feel how happy they were to be back to work," he said. Even though masks covered their smiles, the warmth and enthusiasm of the crew shone through.

Acts of Kindness and Laughter

Kim Finnegan-Sheplock recalled an unforgettable dining experience on Icon of the Seas when her waiter took over cracking her lobster, seeing her struggle. Jokingly, she asked if he wanted to feed her too. To her delight, he picked up her fork and playfully fed her the first bite of dessert, creating a moment filled with laughter. “Best time ever eating with Royal!”

A Family Legacy

For Terence Cabral, Royal Caribbean is more than a workplace—it’s a family tradition. He started his career with Sovereign of the Seas in the Food & Beverage department, and now his son works in Guest Services. “My brother was a chef on Royal Caribbean, and my son is now with RCCL. We love RCCL!”

Sailing with the Captain and Hotel Director

Andrew Vernon-Betts shared an extraordinary night on Anthem of the Seas when the Sports Manager invited him to the FlowRider, only to discover that the captain, Srecko Ban, was already there, surfing under the stars. He also recalled the toughest spinning class he ever endured—led by none other than the Hotel Director on Allure of the Seas!

A Love Story at Sea

Michael Franklin Poole and his wife met at the R Bar on Enchantment of the Seas in 2016. A few years later, with the help of Guest Services Manager Rosita Victoria Torres, he planned the perfect engagement on CocoCay’s South Beach. "For this, I’ll be forever grateful!"

An Unforgettable Zip Line Experience

Randy Scalise shared a touching story from Oasis of the Seas where two sports deck managers, Jack and Adam, went above and beyond for a child with cerebral palsy. They ensured he could safely experience the zip line across the Boardwalk, bringing tears of joy to his parents' eyes.

Cruising Family

Rifky Neuah, a veteran of 54 Royal Caribbean cruises, emphasized the lasting relationships he has built with crew members. He recounted how an assistant waiter, Nikki, excitedly recognized him months later, remembering his name and dietary needs. “The crew are the heart and soul of the ship.”

More Than Just a Job

Rosie Laldinpuii Hmar, a former crew member, fondly recalled her time working on Empress of the Seas. She shared how officers personally cooked pasta for the crew and how national holidays were celebrated together, creating a sense of unity. “I missed working with Royal Caribbean… All the crew members are funny and helpful.”

The True Asset of Royal Caribbean

Paul Kern, once a frequent cruiser with another line, became Loyal to Royal after one unforgettable cruise on Monarch of the Seas. He attributes this shift to the crew, particularly Trudy Julius in Guest Services. "A billion-dollar ship is impressive, but the true assets will always be the crew. No other company hires as well as Royal Caribbean."

The Heartbeat of the Seas

These stories are just a glimpse of the countless moments where Royal Caribbean crew members have made a difference in the lives of guests. From reuniting lost belongings to forming lifelong friendships, their dedication, kindness, and passion are what truly make Royal Caribbean special. As Michael Bayley said, "Our crew are the heart of Royal Caribbean!" and these heartwarming stories prove that to be true.
