Royal Caribbean International has announced it will resume trips to Labadee, Haiti, in October 2024, following a temporary suspension earlier this year due to rising violence and instability, Cruise Radio reported. The cruise line removed Labadee from its itineraries in March 2024, after concerns over safety were heightened by incidents.
With the situation in the area showing signs of improvement—such as the return of airline services and an increase in peacekeeping efforts—Royal Caribbean is optimistic about safely restarting its operations. In a message to a guest, the cruise line expressed its enthusiasm, saying, “Labadee is one of our fan-favorite private destinations and we are ready and excited to return in October 2024!”
The first ship scheduled to visit Labadee will be the Adventure of the Seas, which is set to arrive on October 8, 2024. The 3,807-passenger ship will embark on a six-night Eastern Caribbean cruise departing from Port Canaveral. Its itinerary includes stops in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Labadee, and Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean’s other private destination in the Bahamas.
Several other ships from Royal Caribbean’s fleet, including the Freedom of the Seas and Independence of the Seas, will also begin calling at Labadee in October, with the Grandeur of the Seas following in November. These vessels will continue featuring Labadee as a stop in their winter Caribbean itineraries.
Royal Caribbean will be the first major cruise line to return to Haiti, while its sister brand, Celebrity Cruises, is not expected to resume visits to Labadee until February 2025.
