Royal Caribbean International shared construction updated on its first cruise ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), Icon of the Seas. The construction is well underway with the recent installation of the LNG Fuel Tank. The company released a video of the first tank recently installed weighting 307 tons. The thank is 90 feet (27 meters) long and 26 feet (8 meters) tall.
With energy-efficient technology to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, from LNG to shore power connection that removes emissions while connected at port, Icon will be a significant milestone in the cruise line’s journey to becoming emission-free. The first of the revolutionary Icon Class is set to make its debut in fall 2021, and it will make waves with a mix of innovations and adventures cruising’s never seen before.
Icon of the Seas is set to make its debut in fall 2023, and Royal Caribbean has two other Icon Class ships on order. The other two cruise ships will be delivered in 2025 and 2026.
