UK's third largest Cruise operator Thomson Cruises signed an agreement with Royal Caribbean for a purchase of the Splendour of the Seas cruise ship. The ship will undergo major dry-dock in Spain in order to meet Thomson needs and will be based in Palma de Mallorca, with new attractions and renewed atmosphere, services and facilities.

After being transferred to the new owners, the ship will be renamed Discovery, becoming the flagship of the company. But the renovation will go beyond the name change, highlighting the different environment inside the ship and the dining options that will emerge.

The ship will join Thompson Cruises fleet next spring, when the renovation works are completed, and the ship will contribute directly to the company aims to provide a fleet of experiences completely remodeled for its passengers.

From June next year, the ship, already with the name of Discovery, will be based in Palma de Mallorca, with a capacity to receive 1830 passengers accommodated in 915 cabins with balconies in nearly 40% of them. Among the remaining renovations that will stand out is the outdoor movie screen and even a climbing wall.

It's not just the outside of the ship to be renovated, since the company moved to its entertainment and dining options will also be renewed through partner companies who already have a link with the company.

Splendour of the Seas final sailing will commence on April 4, 2016 and all officers and crew will remain with the Company and will be transferred to other vessels worldwide after the ship leaves Royal Caribbean International fleet.
