"Russian Schettino" Crashes his Ship Two Times

After drinking whole bottle of vodka, Russian captain stood at the helm of his 30,000 tons ship, crashing twice into the lock gates of a crowded British port. Italian media had given Viatcheslav Poleshchuk a nickname " Russian Schettino ".

44-year-old Viatcheslav Poleshchuk was described as all over the place as he tried to maneuver his 100-metre long ship, RMS Bell, which was loaded with scrap aluminum through Goole port in East Yorkshire.

After police arrested him, he asked the officers: "Can I do another round of Vodka?" As if he had just got off a roller coaster. The man then admitted that he drank to exceed the limit. The blood analysis revealed a blood alcohol level four times higher. He had 157 milligrams of alcohol in the blood, the legal limit is 35.

Judge Michael Mettyear said: "It is outrageous to be in charge of a great big vessel while over the drink limit. My instinct is a custodial sentence."

According to the defense, Poleschuk drank 12 hours before the planned release in the sea. However, the departure was moved, so that his client did not have time to sober up and was forced to operate the vessel.

The captain was detained for a week, waiting for his case to be presented to the court. The news comes on the same day in Italy where the real Schettino has challenged his dismissal against Costa Cruises.
