A huge clean up is currently underway aboard Azamara Pursuit after the cruise ship encountered dust storm in the middle of the Mediterranean. The ship was sailing south of Spain yesterday when a dust storm swirling over the Med from the Sahara desert covered the vessel with dust.
The crew aboard Azamara Pursuit have a few days to get the ship back to normal as the date to resume cruise operations is coming soon. In a post on social media Hotel Director, Heike Berdos said that she is sad to see her home away from home which was spotless and sparkled, and overnight a sandstorm passed covering the ship with dust. But she is confident that with the teamwork from the amazing Azamara crew they will overcome this challenge.
Azamara Pursuit is expected to arrive in Cadiz on March 17. The ship is scheduled to resume cruise operations on March 25, departing from Lisabon on 8-Night Spain Intensive Voyage.
News outlets in Europe reported about the powerful storm system that brought clouds of Sahara dust to parts of southern Europe on Wednesday. The storm named Celia turned the skies in Spain and Portugal burnt orange, leading to very poor air quality and a layer of accumulating mud. Celia is expected to descend on parts of England by Wednesday morning.
