Search Ends For Two Carnival Spirit Passengers

After nearly 48 hours, the authorities have decided to stop the search for the couple who disappeared from a cruise ship that was sailing along the north coast of Australia. On Wednesday, Paul Rossington and his girlfriend Kristen Schroder, both from New South Wales, were last seen on the balcony of their cabin of the cruise ship Carnival Spirit. It is not yet clear what caused them to fall into the sea.

Around 8:50 p.m a security camera mounted outside the ship has captured the scene in the video, which for obvious reasons was not delivered, is Schroder who falls into the sea and a few moments later Rossington which flips to the ' water. The images seem to rule out a suicide and they assume an accident, but they lack many elements to accurately reconstruct the story.

The only thing certain is that no one was aware of the incident for several hours. The alarm was given only the next day, Thursday, nearly 14 hours after the accident, when the two passengers have collected their luggage upon landing in Sydney. Verified their absence started the search by the Navy and the police in a large portion of the sea, about 60 miles, off Forster New South Wales.

The CEO of Carnival Australia defended the safety of the cruise ship, recalling that the railings on the decks and balconies are several inches taller than the minimum standards imposed by international law. He explained that the delay of 14 hours in the searc was due to the fact that no one noticed the fall in the sea of the two passengers.

Carnival Cruise ships have numerous cameras along their perimeter, but not all image streams are monitored 24 hours by security personnel. If Rossington had given the alarm before jumping into the water, would be immediately initiated emergency procedures. Investigators want to understand why, the man jumped immediately, without telling anyone.
