Singapore Marina Bay Cruise Center Open for Business

Singapore Marina Bay Cruise Center was officially opened on Monday evening. This is joint venture between Singapore Airport Terminal Services and Europe's Creuers del Port de Barcelona worth $ 500 million.
The new Singapore Marina Bay terminal near Changi Airport can accommodate cruise ships weighting up to 220,000 tons and 360 meters long. The 28,000 square metre terminal can cater to the worlds  largest cruise ships, such as the Royal Caribbean Oasis and Voyager-class ships. Officials say that this investment will boost country’s cruise industry and attract more visitors from Asia and arund the world.

"The official opening of the terminal marks a significant development for both the cruise landscape in Singapore and the ASEAN region," said Melvin Vu, chief executive of the joint venture.
Vu said the terminal would serve "to further anchor Singapore's position as an attractive homeport for cruise lines" because of its modern facilities and proximity to Changi Airport, itself a regional aviation hub.

“MBCCS is expecting over 70 calls, including Azamara, Celebrity, Costa, Cunard, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Silversea. This will translate into a passenger traffic of more than 200,000 from now until March 2013. With inter-Asian travel increasing and the cruise industry being one of the fastest growing segments of the travel and leisure sector, more ships are expected to call at the terminal going forward.”

Last year, Singapore visited 13.2 million tourists and the officials are expecting the number of cruise ships to triple with the new terminal.
