Royal Caribbean International plans to restart cruises on the Spectrum of the Seas from Hong Kong this summer. Hong Kong authorities have given Royal Caribbean approval to restart operations with short "cruises to nowhere" only for Hong Kong residents following strict health protocols.
The news was announced by Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau Tang-wah who said that cruises will sail with fully vaccinated passengers and crew in advance of travel and they must undergo testing before boarding, while ships will operate at half capacity. Hong Kong residents will be allowed to cruise as early as July when the government will launch the so-call cruises to nowhere program, with officials imposing strict health protocols for passengers and crew.
According to the Hong Kong Cruise Society, Spectrum of the Seas will begin sailing from Hong Kong starting July 30, 2021 with 2, 3, and 4-night cruises.
