Costa Cruises has announced the successful integration of SpaceX's Starlink broadband service onto its flagship Costa Toscana.
Costa Toscana is the first cruise ship in Costa Cruises' fleet to provide its passengers and crew with state-of-the-art Wi-Fi connectivity through SpaceX's cutting-edge Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology. The new service is already in operation, offering an unparalleled internet experience.
Giuseppe Carino, Vice President of Guest Experience & Onboard Revenues at Costa Cruises, expressed the company's commitment to embracing innovative solutions that elevate onboard services and exceed the expectations of guests and crew. Carino highlighted the transformative capabilities of Starlink's low orbit satellites, which grant ships access to high-speed and reliable internet connectivity like never before.
By leveraging the power of Starlink, Costa Cruises aims to enhance the overall cruising experience for guests and crew alike. The implementation of this advanced broadband service will gradually extend beyond Costa Toscana to encompass the entire Costa fleet. The next vessel to be equipped with Starlink will be Costa Smeralda, the sister ship of Costa Toscana, with the installation scheduled to be completed by December 2023.
The advantages of Starlink's integration into the Costa Cruises fleet are manifold. Passengers will benefit from fast and reliable internet access, ensuring seamless web surfing and the ability to share their experiences in real-time, even in remote areas. Additionally, the service will greatly improve communication between ships and shore offices, optimizing various aspects of ship operations and creating a smoother and more efficient cruise experience.
The introduction of Starlink will significantly enhance the internet connectivity available to the crew. This improvement will facilitate more reliable and faster connections for crew members, allowing them to stay in touch with their loved ones back home or access their social media platforms more seamlessly.
On Costa Toscana, and soon on other Costa ships, guests will have the opportunity to choose from a range of internet packages, including "Pay per Minute," "Whatsapp," "Social," and "Full" options, all of which offer connectivity with Starlink.
Costa Cruises' partnership with SpaceX's Starlink not only signifies a major step forward for the cruise line but also demonstrates the company's unwavering dedication to providing exceptional services and embracing technological innovation.
