Surfers Organize Petition to Ban Building of Cruise Ship Terminal

Australian surfers web site www.surfertoday.com is organizing petition to ban a giant cruise ship terminal and marina in Kirra, Australia’s Gold Coast. Surfers want to protect one of the world's premier surf breaks by Leda Holdings who is authorized to build a cruise ship terminal and marina in a public-private partnership with the Queensland State Government. They warn that the surfers paradise will disappear completely and that Snapper Rocks and Duranbah surf peaks will be affected.

Cruise terminal will be able to welcome two 400-metre ships, 28 large yachts and 560 recreational vessels.

Developers have tried to smooth the anger of the local surf community by promising gardens, playgrounds, a wave pool "to host international surfing competitions", concert stage, several sport facilities and 4200 full-time jobs.
