Virgin Voyages announced the appointment of new Chief Executive Officer Nirmal Saverimuttu, following the retirement of the founding CEO Tom McAlpin, who will transition to the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors, continuing his support for the brand at executive level.
Under Tom McAlpin's visionary leadership, Virgin Voyages has achieved remarkable success, earning numerous industry awards and garnering a plethora of five-star reviews, all stemming from a passionate commitment to the brand's unique culture.
"It is hard to express just how proud I am of all that the Virgin Voyages Crew has created and the strong endorsement we are receiving from Ares. We have won numerous industry awards and received many five-star reviews because of our passion for this brand," expressed McAlpin. "While I will miss the day-to-day, I believe it is the right time to step aside as CEO. Nirmal is a great friend and experienced leader who lives and breathes the Virgin Voyages culture. I know he will help take this amazing brand and Crew to new heights, and I look forward to continuing to support the leadership team as Chairman."
Nirmal Saverimuttu, who has served as President and Chief Experience Officer of Virgin Voyages, brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the company's ethos. His appointment as CEO comes at a pivotal moment for Virgin Voyages as the company embarks on an ambitious expansion plan.
The news was released following the announcement of a substantial capital raise of $550 million, aimed at bolstering the company's growth initiatives. The capital infusion is being led by funds managed by Ares Management's Private Equity Group, demonstrating a strong vote of confidence in Virgin Voyages' potential to thrive in the cruise industry.
