TUI Cruises has stated that the deployment of the Mein Schiff 5 is cancelled and the vessel is out of commission. This means the capacity of 2,500 passengers will not be used for the sake of the Company.
“The Mein Schiff 5 will initially take a break starting at the end of October. The reason for this is that we, unfortunately, cannot start the Asia season with Mein Schiff 5 in November as planned due to the ongoing corona-related travel restrictions in the region,” TUI Cruises wrote in a statement sent to Cruise Industry News.
The previous schedule of the Mein Schiff 5 was set for May, 2022, including sailings to/from Dubai, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Japan.
All the crew has the information already and the important decisions about the current contracts will be planned mutually. This suspension of the cruise ship was foreseeable, because of its recent decommissioning. It is all the more surprising that not the entire season, but only a few cruises of the ship in Asia were canceled. In total, the Hamburg shipping company has now canceled four trips with Mein Schiff 5 again. However, as the number of trips decreases, the likelihood that the ship will even be transferred to Asia decreases. Such transfer trips are of course expensive, for a few trips on site, it is now difficult to imagine economically that there will be the following Asia cruises.
The Company was not specific about the time of the restarting, neither if there will resume of the cruises of this vessel at all.
Canceled cruises:
- Asia with Singapore-January 5-January 19, 2022
- Asia with Singapore-January 1- February 2, 2022
- Asia with Singapore-February 2-February 16, 2022
- Vietnam with Hong Kong-February 16-March 2, 2022
All the assigned guests of the above-mentioned trips were informed about the cancellation of the cruises by TUI Cruises. However, as already mentioned, the season of Mein Schiff 5 has not been completely canceled.
