Royal Caribbean International's new ship, Utopia of the Seas, is at Port Canaveral, Florida, today for its christening voyage. From there the ship will head to Royal Caribbean's private island, Coco Cay in the Bahamas, over the next three days.
This special voyage wasn't open for bookings. Only invited guests, including 52 competition winners and their companions, will board the ship. These guests typically include company representatives, business partners, and media.
Singer Meghan Trainor will christen the Utopia of the Seas and perform live at the event. Royal Caribbean promises a big celebration for their sixth new ship in the Oasis Class.
The ship was delivered about a month ago. On June 13, 2024, Chantiers de l'Atlantique handed it over to Royal Caribbean International in Saint Nazaire, France. Then crossed the Atlantic with crew only, arriving at Port Canaveral on July 11, 2024. The ship took a test trip to Coco Cay on July 13, 2024, and starts its christening voyage today, July 15, 2024.
Utopia of the Seas will sail three- and four-day Caribbean cruises and will be based in Port Canaveral year-round. Each trip includes stops at Coco Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas. Royal Caribbean calls these trips the ultimate weekend experience because every day on board feels like the weekend.
The Utopia of the Seas is 362 meters long and 64 meters wide. It has 2,834 cabins and suites, accommodating 5,668 passengers at double occupancy. The crew consists of 2,290 members. The ship runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), unlike its sister ships.
