Celebrity Xcel crew member was taken into custody on April 5 when the cruise ship arrived at Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), following a reported incident that happened earlier in the voyage.

The arrest was carried out by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, who identified the crew member as Wigawa Putu Janu, 36, from Jembrana, Indonesia. He is facing a charge of sexual battery.

According to arrest report, the case involves another female crew member who told investigators she had been socializing with the accused after completing their shift. The two reportedly consumed alcohol together before the situation escalated.

The woman reported that she had limited recollection of the night after drinking. The victim said she woke up naked in the crew member’s bed, and noticed injuries and signs that something had happened, Cruise Law News reported. She then informed her supervisor, which triggered an onboard report and investigation.

Authorities reviewing the case examined onboard surveillance footage as part of their findings. According to the report, the video allegedly shows the woman in a highly intoxicated condition, unable to walk independently. The footage reportedly captures the accused assisting her and guiding her toward his cabin.

Law enforcement intervention took place once the ship returned to U.S. jurisdiction. Deputies boarded the vessel at Port Everglades and took the crew member into custody. 

The following day, the accused appeared before a Broward County judge, who ordered that he remain in custody without bond while the case proceeds.

At this stage, the case remains under investigation, and additional details have not been publicly released.
