Carnival promoted Daniela Gargiulo, the first woman in the company's history to serve as Staff Captain.

The appointment was celebrated on August 5 during a special ceremony aboard Carnival Adventure as the ship sailed back to Sydney from the South Pacific. Captain Francesco Bencivenga officially welcomed Gargiulo into her new role as his second-in-command.

Gargiulo's journey with Carnival began in 2013 when she joined the company as a deck cadet. Over the past 13 years, she has steadily worked her way up through the ranks, earning a reputation for her dedication and leadership. She transferred to Carnival Adventure last year after building years of experience across the fleet.

Her passion for life at sea started even earlier. At just 14 years old, she enrolled in a nautical school in Italy, setting her on the career path that has now led to this historic achievement.

"This promotion is an incredible honor, and I'm extremely proud to be the first woman in Carnival Cruise Line history to become a Staff Captain," Gargiulo said. "I love working with people from different cultures, and I'm excited to begin this new chapter aboard Carnival Adventure in Australia."

Captain Francesco Bencivenga said he is looking forward to working alongside Daniela in her new position. As Staff Captain, she will help oversee the ship's marine operations, safety, and lead the deck team while serving as the captain's second-in-command.

Her promotion also marks another step forward for women in senior maritime roles, highlighting the growing opportunities for female officers on the bridge.
