Luis Fonsi Christens NCL’s Latest Ship Norwegian Viva

In a glamorous ceremony at Port Miami on Tuesday, November 28, Puerto Rican singer and songwriter Luis Fonsi christened the Norwegian Viva, the latest addition to Norwegian Cruise Line's (NCL) fleet. The event included appearances by fellow musicians Pedro Capó and Paulina Rubio, as well as comedian Marcello Hernández from 'Saturday Night Live (SNL).'

Fonsi, renowned for his chart-topping hit 'Despacito,' expressed his pride in baptizing the cruise ship, that will sail on a seven-day Caribbean itineraries with San Juan, Puerto Rico, as its home port. The seven-day itineraries, commencing from San Juan, will include stops at Tortola (British Virgin Islands), Saint John (Antigua), Bridgetown (Barbados), Castries (Saint Lucia), Philipsburg (Saint Martin), and St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands).

Following its christening voyage, the Norwegian Viva is set to become the newest ship homeported in San Juan starting December 15, 2023. David J. Herrera, President of NCL, described Fonsi as not only an incredible artist but also a genuinely good person, stating that the singer perfectly embodies the values of the Miami-based cruise company.

The cruise line, which boasts a fleet of 19 contemporary ships traveling to 400 destinations worldwide, plans to offer a variety of seven-day Caribbean voyages on the Norwegian Viva until April 2024. Subsequently, the ship will embark on a summer season to Europe, departing from Athens and Piraeus (Greece), Lisbon (Portugal), and Rome and Venice (Italy).

NCL highlighted the unique features of the Prima class vessels, including world-class cuisine, onboard activities like the three-level Viva Speedway race track, the Indulge Food Hall with eleven gastronomic options, and thrilling water slides known as The Drop and The Rush. The ship also houses a sustainable cocktail bar, Metropolitan.
