Port Canaveral terminal briefly evacuated over suspicious package

Submitted by kgnadmin on

Port Canaveral was reopened for cruise ship passengers after a suspicious bag raised the alarm of the port authorities on Saturday July 9. The U.S. Coast Guard released the following statement on their Twitter account at around 2 p.m. “#BreakingNews @USCGSoutheast sets security zone around Port Canaveral after report of suspicious package.”

The lockdown at Port Canaveral cruise terminal was prompted by a strange odor coming from a passenger luggage. Shortly after securing the area robot was send to inspect the threat, just to find out that the vapor was coming from a broken can of hair spray. Hour later U.S. Coast Guard released second statement saying “#BreakingNews #UPDATE Suspicious package at Port Canaveral not a threat. @USCGSoutheast stands down security zone."

Two cruise ships were docked at Port Canaveral yesterday during the lockdown, Carnival Conquest and Celebrity Constellation.
