Rio Olympics: USA Dream Team to be Housed on Cruise Ship

Submitted by kgnadmin on

The USA men's basketball Dream Team will be housed on a cruise ship during the Rio Olympic Games 2016. This information was confirmed today by Rio de Janeiro municipal secretary.

Two cruise ships will be docked at Pier Maua during the Rio Olympic Games, the first ship will house the International Olympic Committee members and the second cruise liner will be home to the US basketball team and other high profile athletes.

The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee was already informed that the USA basketball players will not be accommodated in the Olympic Village. In the report, the USA Basketball Official did not confirm the hosting location or the name of the cruise ship for security reasons.

This is not the first time cruise ships to be used to serve as a housing unit for Olympic Games.

During 2004 Olympics in Athens, the USA Dream Team was accommodated on board Cunard Line RMS Queen Mary 2, which also received the US President George W. Bush; the UK Prime Minister Tony Blair; and the French president, Jacques Chirac. This strategy has been adopted to provide greater comfort and privacy for athletes.
