Celebrity Ascent welcomed a familiar face to the bridge following a recent change of command aboard the ship.

Captain Tasos Kafetzis signed off after completing his latest rotation, handing command to his brother and fellow Celebrity Cruises captain, Dimitrios “Captain D” Kafetzis.

A team member shared a warm farewell, describing Captain Tasos as “funny, gentle and human” and praising the kindness and professionalism he showed while leading the ship.

Captain Tasos and Captain Dimitrios were originally appointed as co-captains of Celebrity Ascent, taking turns at the helm during alternating rotations. This means the latest handover is a scheduled rotation rather than a permanent change in command.

“Safe travels, Captain Tasos, and welcome aboard Captain D,” the crew member wrote.

With Captain Dimitrios now taking over, Celebrity Ascent continues its Mediterranean season in familiar and experienced hands.
