Guests currently sailing aboard the Symphony of the Seas have received a notice reminding passengers about the rules for decorating stateroom doors during the voyage. The letter, sent to guests during the current voyage, outlined several restrictions aimed at keeping decorations safe and respectful for everyone onboard.
According to the notice, stateroom door decorations must not use lithium-powered lights, cover the peephole, pose a fire hazard, or touch the door frame. The cruise line also suggested magnetic decorations as a safer and easier option for guests who enjoy personalizing their cabin doors.
The message also reminded passengers that any decorations displayed outside staterooms are left “at your own risk,” noting that Royal Caribbean International is not responsible for missing items placed outside guest cabins.
While themed cabin door decorations have become a popular tradition on cruises, one guest onboard claimed the reminder may have been prompted by a recent incident involving a Scrabble-style magnetic decoration set.
The guest said their room attendant explained that someone had arranged offensive words using the Scrabble pieces on another passenger’s door display, leading to complaints and confusion between guests. The situation reportedly created significant onboard drama after other passengers blamed the stateroom owners for the messages.
